If what you seek is self preservation, and I mean that in the longest sense possible, then start planning to abandon the concept of Left versus Right, and start thinking in terms of tyranny versus liberty.
The concept of Left and Right was derived from the fact that opposing factions in revolutionary France were seated on either side of an aisle. Now both sides of the aisle have become dominated in various ways by forces that are dragging our government relentlessly towards total statism; i.e., every aspect of your life under control of one government bureaucracy or another. Essentially there is no "side" that takes the position that government growth favors top down tyranny and government dissolution favors individual liberty.
You town hall and "Tea Party" participants and supporters represent the individual liberty faction that remains in our society. Were you to continue to get scant respect from either side of the aisle, it becomes pretty clear that there is no aisle. Government becomes clearly of and for itself, and not "of, by, and for the people."
It is safe to say that the Left includes the vast majority of shock troops. Either those on the dole, or those who pass out the dole, provide bodies, and usually while they are being paid by government. They come out at your expense and demand more and continued government payouts at your expense. (It is only this year that we are seeing tea-partiers turn out in record numbers.) So the large numbers of Leftist shock troops, aided and abetted by Leftist Media, have generally led the Left further left, and dragged the Right with them.
This has been going in one way or another for all of my long life, and at a variety of speeds at various points. But today it is happening at alarming speeds, and more and more of us who are targeted to become subjects are seeing it. What we have not heard yet is language sufficient and clear that identifies the problem so we can fight it adequately.
Instead of a constitutional republic which allows government among men to exist only under limiting constraints, power seeking forces seem now to feel pretty comfortable that their creation of a Platonic republic of mutually recognized elites is now beyond prevention. That is, they believe that there is no way any resistance to them can succeed.
These wannabe rulers will succeed if you continue to think only in Left or Right rather than freedom or slavery.
I certainly do not feel the pressure of government in my life. I do worry about bankruptcy from medical expenses if am taken by major medical problems and my insurance finds an excuse not to pay. And what about the near global collapse of the entire financial system? Those two items stem from lack of government control, not government control. I worry far more about the bankers and big business than I do about government.
ReplyDeletePasc, who knows you (blog wise, I don't mean to infer that you are gay) better than I?
ReplyDeleteKeep it simple (Hemingways route to fame).
Keep to ideas, not prose (Kilgore Trout's skills as proffered by V).
Prose to ideas are like electric guitar to words (U2, Radio Head, etc). They work together, but one usually wins out.
Are you following me?
No, I do not comprehend your criticism. Perhaps you could be more specific?
ReplyDelete"No, I do not comprehend your criticism. Perhaps you could be more specific?"
ReplyDelete---
Succinct:
Ideas will always win over big words.
And I am not trying to be critical. I am struggling with this stuff also.
ReplyDeleteWhat big words? Specify.
ReplyDeleteThere may be some words that pop up into my writing, as they do in my speech, that come naturally. I wind up not writing if I presume my readers can't comprehend everything. Is that what you want? Og says it is.
Most words you may find unfamiliar encompass a great deal of history -- that is how they came to exist in the first place. Their usage helps me avoid explaining the conditions the words themselves express.
Thus I endeavor use words that by virtue of their very existence are succinct.
Yes, some are not grade school level words.
Perhaps what you mean is I should talk down to my readers as so many others do?
As I see, if I did that, I would be as bad as those who wish to rule over you. They want you ignorant. Recall the Orwellian slogan "Ignorance is Strength."
If at any time you feel your "struggle" isn't worth it, leave.
"Is that what you want? Og says it is."
ReplyDeleteWhere is dear ol og?
-
"As I see, if I did that, I would be as bad as those who wish to rule over you. They want you ignorant. Recall the Orwellian slogan "Ignorance is Strength.""
Pasc, the state does not wish to rule over me. The zealots God wants to rule over us all, with their false morals.

Have you read Vonnegut? What does Vonnegut say about God? What did Vonnegut, in one of his last books (Man Without a Country), say?
He basically disowned this country, because of Bush ?
Pasc, please go read the Pulitzer prize winning op-ed columnists on NY Times. Go read the op-ed columnists Nobel Laureates on NY Times. Sure they inflict a little history on the reader, but they generally make sense. Even Brooks.
Ill get you an email, as I would like to hear what you say, without the evil eye watching you :-)
Comon Pasc, go read "The Old Man and the Sea".
ReplyDeleteI think Og said Heminway was just a drunk. He (Hemingway, not Og) won a Nobel prize for the above book and is on the front page of life today.

It's a decent story, still relevant to today. And its short. And it's simple.
WTF does Hemingway have to do with this thread Rep? Start your own blog and make an entry. Blogger already has your key info and it's free.
ReplyDeleteC'mon. I asked you a reasonable question.
Specify all the words in today's post that made you struggle.
"Specify all the words in today's post that made you struggle."
ReplyDelete--
"statism, Platonic", Comon Pasc, no main stream writers are using those words.
---
the other day, a qoute:
"As Mark Alger reminds us:
In-fighting is invidious."
Pasc, what the fk? That's Bs.
--
"Comity"? Comon Pasc, you have to be well known to use words like that in the title. Readers have to trust you first.
--
Pasc, there is no big conspiracy, except GOD.
--
"Start your own blog and make an entry. Blogger already has your key info and it's free."
I understand Pasc. I need a few hours to work out the details, and I will, soon. Its all so monotonous to me any more.
Where's the Og, as I like cussing at him, as I do my little dog :-)
And her name is Katrina.
Pasc, I do feel, you are a kindred, semi, spirit, and I will get you an email. Stuffs complicated.

ReplyDeleteOh C'mon Rep.
ReplyDeleteYou know what statism is; I even gave the simplest of definitions for it right after I used it. You like having every aspect of your life under control of some the government? I thought you were in favor of self-preservation. Your government won't even permit you to sue it for not protecting you; self-preservation should have a surer insurer.
As for Platonic: I used it to distinguish the top-down imposed form of republic from that which our form is designed to be. You would remain too ignorant to claim to be progressive if you didn't make the effort to find that out. So once again, I don't believe you didn't understand that and only believe my readers wouldn't understand.
Are you trying to insult all my readers?
And stop insulting Og behind his back. Og is not here insulting you; he only predicted -- on another thread -- that you'd bring dishonor to yourself.
I just deleted your last post because that was all it was -- an unprovoked insult of Og. Is that your imitation of a "progressive."
"I just deleted your last post because that was all it was -- an unprovoked insult of Og. Is that your imitation of a "progressive."

You love the dear og as I do my dear dog. (I really do love my dog).
I'll read this all in the am as i am snocked (I drink). Where is the dear og? You love him. Thats ok. Go watch "Across the Universe". At least you admitted deleting my comment. Thanks.
Interesting.
ReplyDeleteRight vs. Wrong is a better construction anyway.
I only use Left as shorthand anyway to quickly identify who I'm talking about. Everyone always seems to understand what I'm saying.
I am an embarrassment to all of trolldom.
ReplyDeleteYour first comment was actually your most important one Rep.
ReplyDelete"I do not feel the pressure of government in my life."
If you are not a producer, but are a dependent, government would not seem like pressure, but a reliever who provide for you. Is that good?
Govt is not reason, or persuasion, it is force. Is that good?
"I do worry about bankruptcy from medical expenses if am taken by major medical problems and my insurance finds an excuse not to pay."
And you think government had no hand in letting things get this way? I'd love to see your analysis. Mine has government causing the problem from the beginning via letting Med schools dictate how many people they ever let become physicians. One consequence followed another after that.
"And what about the near global collapse of the entire financial system?"
You think government had no hand in that either. The Fed was made a monopoly on money and credit all by itself? Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and lending rules were not political slush funds via government oversight that was quashed when politically expedient?
"Those two items stem from lack of government control, not government control."
You were sleeping, right?
"I worry far more about the bankers and big business than I do about government."
Government passes laws that it enforces with guns. Banks and business can only provide services that you may or may not choose to use. When either of those two wind up being in bed with government and has typically been the case as societies age, we get monstrosity situations such as we are not witnessing. Government will employ the same people who run the show now, and only put them into government where they then have the direct force of law to control you rather than secondary force of law.
I know I haven't dealt with your comment adequately. I'm sorry. All I provided here is a very rough overview for which you'll probably have no regard.
But every element I addressed can be explored further. Those elements have been explored by some very fine men of whose works you probably have not read.
And have you seen this video? Tell me how impressed you are with the Fed's inspector general.
If you are not a producer, but are a dependent, government would not seem like pressure, but a reliever who provide for you. Is that good?
ReplyDeleteI am not dependent, people with kids are dependent on me. Fifty-five percent of my property tax goes to paying for others kids school. I have no kids. Plus how many with kids pay any GD federal tax?
Why are kids so GD important? How about the "why" is the last 3 words in Cat's Cradle "You Know Who."
God is a big reason for our problems today.
When in our debates are we going to get to our real problem today and who is "You Know Who."?
Govt is not reason, or persuasion, it is force. Is that good?
I think we need force, as not everyone plays by the rules.
And you think government had no hand in letting things get this way?
Why are 37 countries ranked as having better health care than we do? Plus, on average, ours costs almost twice as much.
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and lending rules were...
Fannie and Freddie did not cause the world wide near financial collapse. Money grubbing bankers, who came up with some new packaged mumbo jumbo did.
Sorry, I don't have speakers so not sure if video will be worth it. I'll check into it.
Nice Post Pasc
I have no kids.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for you Rep. How old are you?
God is a big reason for our problems today.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the title of an essay you want to write.
Write it. Submit it to me subject to editing (as commentary as Annie has done, or a more formal submissions), and I'll publish it here.
"I'm sorry for you Rep. How old are you?"
ReplyDelete---
Why feel sorry for me? I feel sorry for you guys. You succumbed to your biological impulses which all life possesses to the same maniacal degree.
49 or so.
"Sounds like the title of an essay you want to write. "
ReplyDelete---
I'll see how it fleshes out. I just don't want someone going Jihadi on me. :-)
